The fork occurred at Bitcoin block height 495,866, creating a new chain in the process.
Bitcoin Diamond sh
ares transactional history with the original Bitcoin up until that block, after which they become separate.
The team behind the fork seeks to address some issues they consider important with the original Bitcoin. Privacy protection and slow transaction confirmation times are the main issues this forks tries to improve on.
By adding privacy protection by encryption and raising the block size to 8MB , and also increasing the total supply tenfold, Bitcoin Diamond tries to improve on the original Bitcoin formula.
Bitcoin holders will receive Bitcoin Diamond at a 1:10 ratio, meaning the total supply will be capped at 210 million. This hard fork has seen some community acceptance, with many exchanges and wallets allowing users to store and trade Bitcoin Diamond.
